Umpiring with CNSA

The best seat in the house

Become a softball umpire with CNSA.

Umpiring is a great way to get involved in the game, and it really is the best seat in the house. You are right in the middle of the action, you learn the game inside out, and you become part of the team that keeps softball running every week across Sydney's west.

Why umpire

Why put on the blues

Umpires are the backbone of every competition. It is a fantastic opportunity to stay close to the sport you love, sharpen your knowledge of the rules, build confidence, and give back to the community that gave you the game. It suits players wanting something new, parents on the sideline, and young people looking for their first responsibility in sport.

Training and support

Blues in Training

You do not need experience to start. CNSA runs a Blues in Training programme available to all ages, with training provided each week during the summer season and support offered for rules development. You will learn on the job with experienced umpires beside you, at a pace that suits you.

Accreditation

Getting accredited

CNSA follows the Softball Australia Level 1 Introductory Umpire Program, with further resources available through Softball Australia. As you grow in confidence, there is a clear pathway to develop your accreditation and take on bigger games, including representative and state-level opportunities.

For younger umpires

Umpiring for juniors

Our Blues in Training programme is open to all ages, so younger members can start their umpiring journey in a supported, welcoming environment. It is a brilliant way for juniors to build confidence, earn a bit of independence, and stay involved beyond playing.

Minimum age and any junior umpire reimbursement arrangements are confirmed by our Umpire-in-Charge on enquiry.
